Travellers to Franschhoek are spoilt for choice when it comes to luxury accommodation, with a valley full of beautiful options, it can be a challenge for properties to stand out. Often it comes down to exactly what is needed for your particular stay and in this case, views and a close proximity to town were top priority for our group. This in itself is a bit of a tall order, as many of the properties that benefit from valley views are perched up above town and necessitate a car to get down. That\u2019s where Cape Vue claims its uniqueness, offering both exquisite views and a short walk to town.<\/p>\n

Positioning<\/h4>\n

This gorgeous property lies on Middagkrans Road, just adjacent to Huguenot Memorial at the top end of town. A gravel drive leads up to the property entrance, which is framed by a headily-scented star jasmine canopy.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m always won over by swathes of perfectly trimmed, emerald green grass and Cape Vue\u2019s lawns are impressive \u2013 the kind that you want to roll around on or run barefoot across.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Framed by beautiful established hedges, it makes for a pretty Instagrammable setting \u2013 lavender moves in gentle lilac waves, flanked by pincushions, ornamental grasses, blushing brides and even elusive white king proteas.<\/p>\n

Just beyond the gardens lie Cape Vue\u2019s own vineyards, with the Hottentots-Holland mountains forming the crown jewel of the backdrop. The corner seating area on the stoep is ideal for sundowners \u2013 we grabbed a drink and made the most of the late afternoon. As the sun slipped behind the mountains setting in the distance, it cast an ethereal glow over the pool area and valley beyond, like a warm hug from nature to wind down the day.<\/p>\n

The pool area, set at the edge of the immaculate gardens, has solar heated water and is wrapped by built-in seating and additional separate loungers (another great spot for a sundowner or early morning coffee). If visiting in summer, you are going to find it tough, if not wholly unnecessary, to leave this idyllic space.<\/p>\n

The Rooms<\/h4>\n

Currently the property consists of 6 suites (there are plans for more), each stunningly appointed in individual look and feel but all equally inviting with soft colours, plush velvet headboards, textured upholstery and contemporary finishings. We specifically loved the inclusion of fresh flowers, something so simple but often overlooked that adds a touch of natural beauty and softness.<\/p>\n

Fresh flowers just have a way of saying \u2018we wanted you to feel welcome\u2019 and that is a unique touch that seasoned travellers moving between properties will appreciate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Africology amenities are also always a tick in my box, nothing beats the scent of their premium products. After a power shower we relaxed in our robes, contemplating whether making dinner plans, which required us to leave, was a good idea.<\/p>\n

The Bar & Lounge<\/h4>\n

Cape Vue offers an honesty bar in the communal lounge area and everything is provided to make yourself a great gin cocktail or to simply pour a glass of wine (from their own vineyards). Plush leather couches and occasional chairs make this a great place to meet with your group if you are travelling with others, or simply to read or relax.<\/p>\n

The space gives the feeling that you’re in the home of a friend and that can be a tricky balance to achieve. Everything is beautifully styled to a T and is luxurious, while remaining comfortable.<\/p>\n

Mornings in the Valley<\/h4>\n

We awoke after an extremely restful night\u2019s sleep to a glorious Franschhoek day – not a cloud in the sky and the temperature inching its way already to a midday high of almost 30 \u00baC. We enjoyed coffee (and fingers of fabulous shortbread) on a patio area attached to our suite. With our room overlooking the mountains, framed by lemon tree bursting with fruit and the chirrups of nature, it was a blissful respite from busy city life.<\/p>\n

Breakfast, prepared by the team onsite, included freshly made breads, yoghurts and granola, local cheeses and a hot menu as well. After eggs Benny, with perfect Hollandaise, we were ready to take on the day.<\/p>\n

Why You Should Visit Cape Vue<\/h4>\n

Breathtaking views and luxurious surroundings are commonplace in the Winelands, however, it does take a certain level of unobtrusiveness and trust to create a space that feels laid back but still efficient, all the while delivering a quality experience. Our hosts, Basil and Sue Cary and their team, ensured that our group’s every need was met with friendliness and efficiency, while giving us plenty of space to just relax and be in each other’s company.<\/p>\n

In short, Cape Vue the kind of place you want to come back to. As we sat in the lounge after breakfast we were already consulting our collective diaries to plan our next trip back, and if that\u2019s not the mark of a good stay, what is?<\/p>\n
