In an industry where many top quality EVOOs are produced, being an Absa Top 10 winner speaks of excellence and a dedication to the craft.<\/p>\n<h4>The Absa Top 10 Olive Oils for 2019<\/h4>\n<p>Congratulating the finalists and winners, John Tshabalala, Absa\u2019s Head of Relationship Banking Western Cape, says Absa is very proud to partner with the SA Olive Association, a relationship now in its seventh year of celebrating excellence in the industry.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOn behalf of Absa, I would like to congratulate the 2019 Absa Top 10 Olive Oil competition winners. We wish them continued success and growth in local and international olive oil markets,\u201d he adds.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A total of 93 oils, the same count as in 2018, entered into the 2019 SA Olive Awards and received gold, silver, and bronze medals. The gold winners went on to compete for the coveted Absa Top 10 trophies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-73187\" src=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-940x526.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Blind tasted by an international panel of experts<\/h4>\n<p>The competing oils were individually blind tasted by an international panel of experts in a controlled environment over a period of four days. For panel leader, M\u00fcge Nebio\u011flu, it was her first introduction to such a vast array of South African EVOOs.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00fcge commented that \u2018the judging was an incredible experience and the oils were excellent. SA producers are very knowledgeable and their use of modern technology produces very good oils\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Olive oil experts and second-time judges in the competition, Jos\u00e9 Mingo from Chile and Pablo Canamasas from Argentina, completed the international contingency. Reni Hildebrand and Benedetta Lami \u2013 both regular faces on international judging panels \u2013 and SA Olive tasting panel members, Louise Rabie, Theresa Louw, and Mare Groenewald represented South Africa.<\/p>\n<h4>Absa Top 10 Olive Oils for 2019<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-73186 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-1.jpg\" alt=\"Absa Top 10 Olive Oils\" width=\"1000\" height=\"560\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-1-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/absa-top-10-olive-oils-2019-1-940x526.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Delicate:<\/strong> Lapithos (Lapithos Olive Growers &#8211; Pure).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medium:<\/strong> Babylonstoren (Babylonstoren Coratina), Oakhurst (Oakhurst Medium), Vigne d\u2019Or (Vinge d\u2019Or EVOO), Mardouw (Mardouw Oil of the Olive), Avenue Park (Cape EVOO), Anysbos (Anysbos EVOO), Wildekrans (Wildekrans Keerweer EVOO), and Porterville (Andante Intenso).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intense:<\/strong> De Rustica (Estate Collection Coratina).<\/p>\n<h4>A Word from the Chairman<\/h4>\n<p>The chairman of SA Olive, Nick Wilkinson, confirmed the challenges the industry faced this year and added that even against the backdrop of these challenges, we still made world-class oils deserving of the international accolades they receive.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that no one appreciates how bad, bad olive oil tastes until one tastes a good olive oil \u2013 make it your mission to get this message through to as many people as you can.
