On the 23rd<\/sup> of June this year, over 30 artisan growers, producers and winemakers will pour their latest wines at the annual Publik Wine Fair 2019 in downtown Cape Town. An informal and festive afternoon of tasting, this event was created to bring together artisan producers and showcase the quality of our local independent wine scene.<\/p>\n

The Publik Wine Fair 2019<\/h4>\n

The commonality amongst them is a focus on making smaller volumes of wine in a more natural, hands-on method, a characteristic that sets them apart from the more commercial brands.<\/p>\n

Aside from being different in the way the wines are made, many of these producers choose to work with alternative grape varieties that offer new styles and flavours for the drinker. Ever tasted Durif or Souzao? How about Tempranillo or Tannat? This is an opportunity to broaden your experience in terms of grape varieties but also in terms of areas where vines are grown.<\/p>\n

Wines of origin from Malgas, Sutherland-Karoo, Citrusdal Mountain, Ceres Plateau and more are in the lineup of over 150 that visitors can taste in the afternoon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Face to Face with the Winemakers<\/h4>\n

Along with diversity, the tasting brings several revered producers in the likes of Crystallum, Alheit Vineyards, FRAM, Radford Dale and Reenen Borman, to name just a handful, some of whom will pour wines that sell out almost immediately on release.<\/p>\n

The chance to engage directly with all the winemakers in one room comes to Cape Town once a year and is worth the entrance fee alone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The event is organised by Publik<\/a>, the wine merchant and distributor that also operates wine bars in Cape Town and Johannesburg, all aimed to champion local artisan producers and help enthusiasts discover their wines. A date for the Johannesburg 2019 event will be confirmed soon.<\/p>\n
