If you like your food freshly prepared and free from additives then you best get your hungry self down to Free From Eatery. The newly opened deli-style eatery has found its home in a 110-year old building along St Georges Mall in the CBD. The bones of this beautiful old shop front have provided a snug home for the sustainable and ethical eatery that has a chic but really comfortable and accessible vibe.<\/p>\n

The Concept<\/h4>\n

As the name suggests you can expect food that is prepared fresh daily with quality ethically sourced ingredients. Owner, Myles Thompson, is a trained chef but left the industry for the ad and production world but has since found his way back into the kitchen.<\/p>\n

Along with his sous chefs, Zico and Tim, they\u2019re aiming to provide city workers with breakfast and lunch options that are not only healthy and tasty but well-priced too. The food is free from nasties; you\u2019ll find no colourants, additives or preservatives here.<\/p>\n

Breakfast at Free From Eatery<\/h4>\n

In the morning you can grab a cup of Run Rabbit Run coffee (served from 06h30) and pick up a bagel, pain au chocolat, or a carb-free egg and veggie muffin on the go.<\/p>\n

Spring has brought the trees to life along St. Georges Mall and if you have time, we recommend that you pull up a seat at one of the outside tables and enjoy the sunshine while you munch. The menu includes scrambled eggs, frittatas, French toast, yoghurt bowls and more (served from 07h00-10h00).<\/p>\n

Lunch at Free From Eatery<\/h4>\n

For lunch, head down and check out the deli selection table, which will be set up from around 11h30. The dishes will change on a daily basis dependent on seasonality and the quality of the produce available, with some of the herbs and veggies coming from Myles\u2019 own garden.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a weigh and pay system, so you can avoid the uncertainty of not knowing what you\u2019re in for. The price is set and the team will dish up a generous portion for you. Even better, all the containers and cutlery are 100% recyclable<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 we love.<\/p>\n

Every day there will be a choice of proteins to choose from, as well as sides (of which you can choose three \u2013 starting at R60 for a\u00a0small portion and R70 for a\u00a0large portion – prices may fluctuate due to the proteins available). Think dishes like pork meatballs in homemade tomato sauce or Hake and potato fishcakes with a sweet coriander dip.\"free_from_eatery<\/a>\"free_from_eatery\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sides could range from a bowl of oven-roasted butternut with feta and sesame, to roast aubergine with goats\u2019 cheese and cherry tomatoes. There will be dishes that you\u2019ll see more than once but the idea to make it new and interesting on a daily basis. There will also be vegetarian and vegan options included.<\/p>\n

There is bread from Woodstock Bakery that you can add to your meal, as well as fresh loaves to purchase to take home too. \u00a0All the food is prepared in house from the salad dressings and vinaigrettes to the pestos and hummus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why we love it<\/h4>\n

The concept is simple really \u2013 fuss-free, delicious food that is made with love and with the best and freshest ingredients possible. The vibe is homey and unpretentious and we have a feeling that city slickers will be drawn to this dose of home-cooked quality daily.<\/p>\n
