Sarah makes the South African classic, bobotie, with her own twist. This recipe uses lamb mince and lentils, which go wonderfully with the sweet and spicy flavours of this traditional Cape Malay dish.<\/p>\n<h3>Make Sarah Graham&#8217;s Lamb &amp; Lentil Bobotie<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Serves<\/strong>: 4-6<br \/>\n<strong>Difficulty<\/strong>: easy<br \/>\n<strong>Prep Time<\/strong>: 30 minutes<br \/>\n<strong>Cooking Time<\/strong>: 35 minutes<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46541\" src=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sarah-bobitie-1-x-6.jpg\" alt=\"Lamb and Lentil bobotie \" width=\"1000\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sarah-bobitie-1-x-6.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sarah-bobitie-1-x-6-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test10.co.za\/C\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Sarah-bobitie-1-x-6-940x564.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>For The Spiced Minced Meat<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>1\u20132 Tbsp olive oil<br \/>\n500 g lamb mince<br \/>\n2 medium-sized onions, chopped<br \/>\n1 clove garlic, minced<br \/>\n1 apple, peeled, cored and grated<br \/>\n1 tsp grated fresh ginger<br \/>\n2 tsp medium curry powder<br \/>\n1 tsp ground coriander<br \/>\n1 tsp turmeric<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp ground cinnamon<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp dried chilli flakes<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp each of dried mixed herbs<br \/>\n1 Tbsp chutney \u00bd tsp salt pinch of freshly<br \/>\nground black pepper \u00bd cup seedless raisins<br \/>\n1 Tbsp lemon juice 21\/2 cup cooked quinoa (for gluten free) OR 2 slices wholewheat bread, soaked in water, lightly squeezed and mashed with a fork<br \/>\n1 x 400 g can lentils, drained<br \/>\n2 Tbsp flaked almonds<br \/>\n2 bay leaves<\/p>\n<h4><strong>For the Baked Egg Topping<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>1 cup milk<br \/>\n\u00bd tsp salt pinch of freshly ground black pepper<br \/>\n2 eggs<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What to do<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 190 \u00b0C and grease an ovenproof dish well. I prefer a slightly smaller dish that makes a deeper, moister bobotie.<\/p>\n<p>Heat the oil and butter in a pan on medium-high heat and fry the mince, stirring often until loose and crumbly. Add the onions and fry until soft and translucent.<\/p>\n<p>Add the garlic, apple, ginger, spices, herbs and chutney and continue cooking for another minute. Season with salt, pepper and lemon juice then add the mashed quinoa or bread, raisins, lentils and almonds.<\/p>\n<p>Spread the mixture in the ovenproof dish and insert the bay leaves.5.
