Listen up cake lovers, The Velvet Cake Co. has opened its second store, and this one is in the CBD.\u00a0If you\u2019re looking for some of the best cakes in Cape Town, we\u2019ll let you in on a little secret \u2013 this is the place to go. And now you wont have to make the trek to the Northern Suburbs to get some. The new store has opened its doors\u00a0in bustling Loop Street and we think its a fine addition. The\u00a0little boutique bakery is chock-a-block full of stunning cupcakes, delectable cheesecake, crunchy cookies, luxurious quiches and delightful savoury muffins.<\/p>\n

\"TheOn the left hand side of the store is a neat seating area where you can sit in comfort on pastel bucket chairs, allowing you to grab a cupcake or a slice of cheesecake, order an espresso, look out over the street and just enjoy the sugar rush. \u00a0At the far end of the store is the Cake Collection space, where you can collect your customised birthday cakes, away from the business\u00a0of the rest of the store. And trust us, it is crazy inside \u2013 on the right hand side are rows and rows of cupcakes, cakes, cheesecakes, and tarts and each one is a showstopper, worthy of an Instagram pic to make everyone you know jealous.<\/p>\n

Lined up against the far right hand wall is a shelf filled with boxed cakes that you can buy on the spot, for perhaps a last minute birthday party or a \u2018going away\u2019 celebration. This is not\u00a0a coffee shop per se, but they do cater to those who enjoy a good cuppa by offer\u00a0Origin coffee, as well as red cappuccinos and hot chocolate.
\n<\/a>You will find all the regular Velvet Cake Co. favourites here, but if you are a newbie to the store take our recommendations on the following:<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The Red Velvet Cupcake; it is the sweet treat that will have you going again and again. The base is red velvet cake, filled with cream cheese, topped with a fluffy Italian meringue and crunchy red sprinkles. It\u2019s light and sweet and everything you will ever want in a cupcake.<\/p>\n

The Maple Bacon Puff, and the Cookie Puff (chocolate cupcakes, topped with Italian meringue and dusted with either oreo crumbs or bacon and maple crumbs) should make your mouth water. Depending on your mood on the day perhaps you’ll be enticed by\u00a0a Sweetie Pie (chocolate cake, topped with Italian meringue and dipped in dark chocolate) and the Naughty Pie (vanilla cake, topped with Italian meringue, dipped in white chocolate).<\/p>\n

We also love the\u00a0traditional Milk Tart cupcake \u2013 a vanilla cake base, filled with custard, topped with a cream cheese frosting and dusted with cinnamon and the Hummingbird cupcake, which is a banana, pineapple and pecan nut cake topped with cream cheese frosting and decorated with a dehydrated banana.<\/p>\n

\"TheYou must try a slice of their cheesecake \u2013 the most popular is the Millionaires Chocolate Cheesecake. An Oreo cookie base, half chocolate, half vanilla cheesecake, topped with chocolate ganache and chocolate shavings. It\u2019s their best seller!<\/p>\n
