This flagship store offers locals the opportunity to sample Gilly Walters’ world-first confectionery, biscuits and ice cream, and experience the magic of Wedgewood this festive season. Gilly’s world-first nougat ice cream, known as ‘the creamiest ice cream’, has become the best-kept secret of the Emporiums and is the highlight of any visit.

The Magic of Wedgewood

Wedgewood Nougat started in a South African family kitchen in 1999. It is the unlikely success story of mother Gilly Walters, an untrained foodie who created a unique, handmade soft honey nougat and several world-first recipes for concertgoers at her home. Twenty-five years later, Gilly’s family still makes her confectionery by hand on the Wedgewood farm.

With five successful stores across the nation, each Wedgewood Gifting & Hamper Emporium has been designed to celebrate Gilly Walters’ culinary talent and creative flair. These experience stores are the brainchild of Gilly’s daughter-in-law, artist Zoe Walters, who saw the need to showcase the family’s handcrafted nougat and the creativity behind the brand.

Working with her husband Paul to grow the brand’s commitment to giving back, Wedgewood Emporiums give 1% of turnover to the planet through South African non-profit organisations such as The Litterboom Project, an Ocean and River Waste Management Project that Wedgewood Emporiums has paid to remove 1000 tonnes of plastic from South African rivers and oceans so far, as well as implement other conservation projects.

“Wedgewood is our chance to give back to the planet and our community. Our long-term vision is to become an ‘Earth Brand’, with ‘Mother Earth’ as Wedgewood’s main shareholder by 2050,” says CEO & Conservationist, Paul Walters.

Wedgewood is already part way there, with key partnerships and projects ensuring the finest ingredients are used in their confectionery and gift boxes and, more importantly, that they are sustainably and ethically sourced.

The Handmade Box project, which runs on their farm, empowers people from their community to conquer cognitive and physical challenges and to contribute to their family income, while crafting creative and recyclable gift boxes for the Wedgewood range.

The Gift That Keeps Giving

The Emporiums themselves are also a work of art. With craftsmanship and a strong eye for detail, they are designed to represent the physical essence of the brand. These are unique standalone stores, each with its own signature floral painting emblazoned across its ceiling and walls with flowers found in South Africa, denoting the bees that make Wedgewood’s distinctly South African honey – a key ingredient of the nougat.

Every light fitting, cabinet and feature has been designed in partnership with local artisans to create a sensorial story that is unique to Wedgewood.

Hampers are wrapped in these floral wrapping papers to offer customers an inspired range of gifts to choose from. Expect world-class service from Wedgewood’s team of curators, who offer a personalised gift-wrapping service and an authentic shopping experience like no other. And for added charm, Wedgewood’s signature ‘queen bees’ have been hidden amongst the furniture, features and flowers to be found and counted by those up for the challenge.
