With a new year ahead, change is on the horizon, even for one of Stellenbosch’s oldest red wine producers. Alto Wine Estate recently announced that its estate will undergo extensive renovations, but will remain open until further notice.

This comes ahead of an exciting new chapter, as the estate expands its offering with refurbished interiors; renovations are set to be completed by 2027. During this period, Alto will temporarily relocate its operations to its sister farm, Bontehoek (formerly Bilton) in early 2025, where they will establish a pop-up tasting room and restaurant.

Big Changes, Same Magic

The estate team is enthusiastic about the future plans for its transformation and invites guests to take advantage of this extended opportunity to experience the magic of Alto.

Visitors can look forward to a curated selection of wine-tasting experiences in the tasting room. The unique offering includes their smoked cheese and wine pairing, biltong and wine pairing and the new summer canapé and wine pairing. All of their tasting options can be accompanied by cheese, charcuterie, antipasto or vineyard platters.

Sample the summer menu at the restaurant; familiar favourites from last season include the grilled Patagonian squid, black mushroom arancini balls and their classic Caesar salad, as well as two new additions to the menu.

Besides the sumptuous summer menu and incredible wine tastings, visitors can experience exciting weekly events at the iconic estate.

Taste & Experience

Couples can enjoy date nights on Wednesday evenings. Indulge in a specially crafted 4-course meal including an amuse-bouche, starter, main course and dessert to share, complemented by a bottle of Alto Rouge 2022 or Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2024. This exclusive package is available for just R595.00 per couple. As a special bonus, each couple will also receive a complimentary tasting voucher, valid before the end of 2025.
